FAQ

What is the typical format of a class?

Both Level 1 and Level 2 classes are set up with the same class structure:

  • Class begins with a warm up for our muscles and joints.
  • We then do 5 minutes of single rope jumping which will improve your cardiovascular endurance and teach you new jump rope skills.
  • The meat of the class is focused on Double Dutch skills. We begin with correct rope turning technique and then move on to jumping skills and tricks.
  • Class wrap up with muscle building exercises such as push-ups and sit-ups followed by stretching.

What kind of shape do I need to be in to take the Level 1 class?

Jumpers of all fitness levels will feel comfortable in the Level 1 Double Dutch class. As long as you're able to jump up and down, you'll fit right in. As the class progresses, you will find that your cardiovascular and muscular shape will increase dramatically, preparing you for the Level 2 class and beyond.

What kind of shoes should I wear?

You will absolutely need to have a good pair of athletic shoes to complete a 6-week Double Dutch class. Cross-trainers are a great option, but if you have shoes that you know to be very supportive in both ankle and arch support, feel free to use them. Good shoes are incredibly important for your longevity in jumping. They will absorb the shock of pounding the pavement, therefore protecting your knees and ankles. Feel free to email us in advance of your first class with specific footwear questions. We can also talk in person after your first class.

Do you offer drop-in classes?

Yes! You may drop in to the first class of Level 1 for a fee of $10. This class allows you to check out the scene and prove to yourself that you’ve got what it takes. Classes may be full so contact us before showing up. After the first class, you will then be able to sign up for the complete 6 week package for $10 off the original price.

Do I need my own ropes?

Students do not need to bring ropes to class as we will provide them for everyone. However, we highly recommend jumping rope on your own and have both single and Double Dutch ropes available for purchase.

Is Double Dutch good exercise?

Double Dutch is fantastic for both cardio and muscular fitness. Unlike the general fitness regimen you would carry out at a gym, participating in Double Dutch requires the combination of both physical and mental concentration. With this dual focus, the workout becomes more of a game, taking your mind off of the purely physical aspect.

Is jumping rope bad for your knees?

Jumping rope can be very stressful on your joints. It's very important to use caution if you have any existing injuries or are prone to knee problems. A good pair of jumping shoes, the correct preventive exercises and practising proper form in the ropes will help you avoid most problems. Double Dutch is a high-impact sport. Let the instructors know your concerns so they can work with you to keep you pain- and injury-free.

What happens if I miss a class?

In most cases, missing one class is no problem (as long as it's not the first day). You will be able to return the following week and pick up where you left off without feeling as though you can't catch up. Missing more than one class will put you behind your classmates but, with some extra practice, you'll be able to catch up. Two classes is the maximum amount you can miss and still graduate to the next level. Scenarios will be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

Where are the classes, is there parking?

Studio Gracia is located at 19 Heron Alley in SOMA with street parking available on both Heron and 8th streets.

I Double Dutched as a kid and would like to take an SFC class. Should I sign up for Level 1 or Level 2?

We start everyone in Level 1 where you'll learn the skills required for Level 2 and All-Stars. Beyond skills acquisition, you'll learn our specific techniques and lingo which we will build upon in more advanced classes. We find it's very important for everyone to be on the same page.

Can my friends come and watch and/or take photos?

Sorry, but friends are not invited to watch since some students don’t feel comfortable learning a new skill in front of an audience. However, SFC hosts occasional recitals so sign up on our mailing list. All friends/bosses/crushes are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Where can I see you guys perform?

Check our calendar for all upcoming shows and happenings! Also please sign up on our mailing list to receive updates for all shows and events.

I heard that Level 1 students do a performance on their last day of class. Is that true?

Yes! As a graduation celebration, we help the class as a whole create a unique routine based on the skills learned in that class. This routine is more of a party for the students than a performance. No one watches the routine but we often videotape it and create a short film for you to show off to your friends.

Do you teach any classes for children?

We no longer teach children's classes. Our style and love for the sport is focused specifically on adults.

Are you connected to any other Double Dutch troops?

Oh yes! Some of our favorite teams across the world include:

What happens after someone completes the All-Star class?

The All-Star Class is a never-ending story of magic and progress. It is an ongoing chance for you to create a team with other students and work on making your own routines for performance and self-fulfillment. This is where the students become the teachers and where the group takes over the individual. All-Star students become a vital part of a complete jump rope machine, working to awe those who wish they had the balls to join. Once an All-Star, always an All-Star.

What is your refund policy?

Because SFC Double Dutch offers a trial class, we do not offer refunds after the purchase of a full 6-week course.
